Vivie and David Glass' Delicious Desserts A Recipe Book Filled with Sweetness Love and Loss edition by Vivie Glass Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews
I've loved David glass cakes for years. And when I heard about a cookbook, I was all over it. It was way to still have my favorite cakes since they are no longer selling them. So far, I've made my three favorites - tres leches, chocolate truffle and the almond cake. The tres leches and chocolate truffle were spot on and I have some new folks who are in love them. The almond cake tasted right but did not rise and was very flat. But I managed to find some more new folks who are in love with that cake too. I might try a smaller pan next time.
The book also tells the background story of the glass' family and business which was very interesting. The recipes were mixed in with the story, which found interesting - each chapter featured a different cake. While it's a cool way to do it, it is my only gripe to have have to flip thru te various chapters to find a particular cake recipe.
I would recommend the book to anyone who likes delicious cakes and even more so to anyone who has had the David glass cakes and misses them. I was so happy to have those cakes again and be able to bake them myself.
Amazing gift to have these recipes and a glimpse into the lives of these very special people. I am aware that David Glass Cakes have been a success story right along as I have ordered various cakes in 5 star restaurants and have been so pleased. When they decided not to continue with their business I am sure they could have sold their recipes to a corporation for a significant amount of money but instead they chose to offer them to their devoted customers. So, in addition to magnificent recipes, we get to experience some of the strong, core values which say "something here is more important than money" of these exceptional people.
I own a lot of recipe books, but none about baking desserts.
I just finished this wonderful read. This is a delightful, poignant story, and not just a recipe book. This writing recreates a family history that is as sweet as are the recipes, and as bitter as the untimely loss that will leave you with a tear in your eye. Thank you Vivie and David.

Thank you Vivie and David for sharing not only the recipes, but the back story as to what was going on in your lives when the recipes came into existence. We have followed you from Bloomfield to South Windsor and back to Bloomfield. Our neighbor will be happy for the Italian Almond Cake. We have been hoarding two of them in our freezers, but can use them now that we have the recipe.
Thank you, again for sharing!
I have been a fan of Desserts By David Glass ever since I first tasted the Chocolate Truffle Cake. I went to the first tastings in the Gold Building, and followed David and Vivie to Bloomfield and then South Windsor. Their desserts have always been first-class, the way they ran their business was first-class, and this book is no exception. Their heart for their family, their work, their employees and their customers shines through every page. I appreciate their willingness to share their recipes with us, but even more I appreciate Vivie's transparency as she shares about their life.
To anyone who has not ever tasted these desserts - you are in for a treat. Buy the book, buy a pan, and get started.
Thank you, Vivie, for sharing this book with all of us. May God comfort and bless you as you continue forward.
I bought a kindle just to get this book. I live in Connecticut where everyone knows about David Glass' cakes, and used to pick up his cakes on Fridays while passing through Windsor. My family especially adores the ultimate chocolate truffle cake, and I bought the specific 6" cheesecake pan mentioned in the book especially for this cake. (You need to be able to take the bottom out to remove this cake, despite what Vivie says!) It was a quick read--each chapter describes part of their life together, then includes a recipe at the end. I read this in one sitting, but the price of the book is a bargain considering the recipes you get! You won't be disappointed!
I had my first David Glass Dessert in Connecticut. I had bought it frozen at Walter Stewarts. From that time I was in love. This is a really lovely recipe book, which is commemorated by the addition of the story behind the business and the romance of two very well known and adored people in Connecticut.
Or if you just love a wonderful story, this will be a book you will keep. You will also want to buy this for very good friends.
